Sylvania Community Services Center, Inc. (SCS for short), a 501(c) (3) non-profit has served the Sylvania community since 1976, when it was formed by the City, Township, and School Board. In that time it has made an impact on the lives of thousands of residents – young and old. It was originally housed in the Burnham Building and was closely identified with that location. At one time the reference to “Burnham” was synonymous with Child Care in Sylvania. And lower level rooms were used as the senior center. Now, we are disbursed through the community with an award winning, nationally accredited Senior Center that serves 250+ older residents a day, and seven state-licensed Child Care locations that serve 300 children per day.
SCS itself is the legal entity charged with operating these programs for children and seniors, providing administrative oversight, collecting funding from the Senior Center levy and other public sources, accepting in-kind support, managing personnel, and planning and directing policy.
